On the Day of Surgery

  • We ask that you arrive promptly at the time you are scheduled.

  • Please wear comfortable clothing.

  • Abstain from wearing makeup, perfume, fragrant body lotions, cologne or after-shave, since vapors from these scents may  interfere with the delivery of the laser beam.

  • Avoid drinking any products containing caffeine.

  • You will need to arrange for transportation. We recommend you have someone you know assist you in getting you home safely.

  • Expect to be at the Center for approximately one hour.

In The Preoperative Area

  • Upon arrival, you will be escorted to the preoperative area where the nurse on duty will greet you and take care of you.

  • You will be asked to read and sign the consent for surgery form. Should you have any questions, be sure to ask the attending nurse prior to signing.

  • You will be given a mild sedative to relax you, followed by a series of antibiotic eye drops, prior to entering the laser suite. Anesthetic drops to numb the cornea are instilled once you are in the laser suite.

In The Operating Room

  • Laser vision correction is performed in a few small steps. Ordinarily, a patient is in the operating room approximately 15-20 minutes.

  • The laser is programmed with your correction before you even enter the laser room.

  • It will take a few minutes to position you properly under the microscope.

  • The procedure itself will take no more than 8-10 minutes.
