On May 23, 2003, the United States Food and Drug Administration approved VISX CustomVue laser vision correction, a treatment that sets a new standard for vision correction, with the potential to enable better vision than contacts or glasses, even at night.

As the only laser in the United States that is able to deliver the CustomVue treatment, the VISX Star S4 Active Trak now stands alone as the premiere laser system. Consequently, it is now the only laser system we use.

In addition to its ability to perform CustomVue treatments, the Star S4 offers a number of other advanced features, including the the ability to create a PreView Lens directly from WaveScan data. This duplicates on a plastic lens what a CustomVue treatment could be like and allows you to see how much improvement this specialized treatment might provide by looking through the lens. 

The S4 also features the only FDA-approved three dimensional eye tracking system. Accurate tracking is important, because it helps assure that each laser pulse is placed in exactly the right location. This helps you relax during surgery, because you don't have to worry about keeping your eyes perfectly still.

Additional advantages of the Star S4 include the ability to create a large optical zone for the reduction of postoperative glare and halo, and the broadest treatment range of all FDA-approved systems.
