Myopia (Nearsightedness)

Myopia is the most common focusing problem. People with myopia can see near objects more clearly but have difficulty focusing on distant objects.
Nearsightedness is caused by a cornea that has too much curvature or an eye that is too long. These conditions cause the light rays to focus at a point in front of the retina.

When the laser is used to treat myopia, the laser gently flattens the contour of the cornea, which lessens its focusing power and allows light to focus farther back, directly on the retina.
